Plastering and skimming
Skimming is a finish coat over a wall that is already flat and sound, and it takes a day for a small room and two for a large one.
Rendering
Rendering is worked off scaffold, and the scaffold costs the same whatever area is being done, which is why one elevation rarely costs a quarter of four.
Plasterboarding and dry lining
Plasterboarding fixes board to a wall or ceiling, on dabs of adhesive or on a frame, and it is then skimmed or taped and jointed.
Silicone and monocouche render
Silicone and monocouche render are coloured through the material rather than painted on, so they never need redecorating, and that is most of the argument for choosing them over sand and cement.
External wall insulation
External wall insulation fixes insulation board to the outside of a solid wall and renders over it.
Floor screeding
Floor screed is the level layer laid over a slab or insulation before the floor finish, in sand and cement or liquid anhydrite.
Stud walls
A typical bedroom stud partition is about a day and a half of work to build, board and skim.
Ceiling repair
Overboarding and skimming an average ceiling takes a day.
Coving and cornice
Coving is supplied in lengths and fitted around the room, and most plasterers do it.
